By the Numbers: Sinkane and Helado Negro at The Echo in Los Angeles

Last night at The Echo, Sinkane brought his “Mean Love” tour to Los Angeles. Supporting the night of soulful crooning and dancing along was fellow Brooklynite Helado Negro, who also put on a headliner-worthy set. We could tell you all about how Sinkane enthralled with his fresh, funky sound, but we already have. Instead, here’s a rundown of the evening’s highlights, broken down in numbers.

27: Minutes before yours truly retired from taking photos to get in his groove for the rest of the show.

20: Minutes your intrepid reporter spent talking to someone in the smoking patio over a surprising, unrelated shared esoteric interest. The greater the music, the more potent the magic?

7: People twirling in the dark in their own world during Sinkane.

6: New songs Helado Negro played before he plugged his latest album “Double Youth.” “If you wanna talk about it later, we’ll talk. I like to talk.”

5: Band members backing Sinkane, including a saxophonist and trumpetist.

3: Tinsel people dancing onstage with Helado Negro.

2: Number of said twirlers that were making out in the back (sorry, felt too weird to photograph this).

1: Non-twirling couples making out in the back (ditto).

1: Onstage shout outs from Sinkane (we’re also fond of Louise from Motormouth Media).
