Although 2015 is just under three weeks old, the new year has been loaded with new music from both old favorites and fresh talent. As usual, Lyynks Music was at the forefront, ready to #keepitfree with beers on us and #keepitcool with our snazzy koozies.
For the third night of their residency at the Silverlake Lounge, The Fontaines dazzled a snap-happy crowd with a vigorous set of “New-Wop.” What is that? The brother-sister duo (albeit a quintet onstage) penned the term to describe their lively blend of indie rock, new wave, doo-wop and more. In addition to charmers like “Dustin Hoffman” and “Paul Newman,” The Fontaines teased at what’s to come with several unreleased songs, including a new single that’s set to drop later this week.
Cigarette Bums opened the evening with a scorching set of DIY garage rock and infectious enthusiasm. Later in the night, Hank Fontaine pulled double duty by swapping his guitar for a bass and joining psychedelic folksters The Electric Magpie to send everyone home in style.
