Saint Motel Signs With Elektra Records

Celebrated indie-rock quartet Saint Motel announced their deal with Elektra last week.    On the heels of a European deal with Parlophone Records, the band catapulted to international acclaim through their infectious nostalgic indie-pop hit “My Type.”   The single, which has become one of the top 100 searched for songs on Shazam and whose video has been viewed more than 2.5 million times, is now being used in Fifa 2015 commercials in certain territories.

Their signing and success is well deserved.  Growing together since 2009, Saint Motel have released multiple EPs, a full length (Voyeur) in 2012, and a smattering of high concept, exceptionally self-directed music videos prior to inking their record deal.   They’ve performed at virtually every Southern California festival, made multiple trips to SXSW and been staples of Local’s Only on KROQ for years.  In explaining the signing, Jeff Castelaz, Elektra’s president, said “[n]ot only is Saint Motel an exceptional live band who writes stylish, brash pop songs, but … they are also the ultimate group of self-starters, who have built a substantial audience and a healthy business prior to landing on our doorstep.”

Expect a new full length album from Saint Motel out sometime in 2015.  Following extensive European touring, and in anticipation of recording for an American release, the band has announced a mini US tour in early 2015 and they just added new label-mates The Moth & The Flame as support.    Spanning from late January to early February, the trek takes Saint Motel down South to Phoenix and a handful of stops in Texas before going North to the Midwest and vocalist AJ Jackson’s hometown of Minneapolis, MN.  The tour currently ends on February 7th in San Francisco at The Chapel, but don’t be surprised if they add a hometown Los Angeles date in the mix before all is said and done.
